Umbra Arms LLC is devoted to more than producing the perfect tool for our clients, we also want to ensure they know how to operate them safely and responsibly. We have several training curricula to keep the operator sharp.
Conventional Training
Basic Pistol Safety
The Basic Pistol course is open to all levels of skill, and designed to adequately prepare the trainee on basic, safe and responsible operation of any handgun. Course completion of the Pistol course by our Certified NRA Instructor meets competency requirements for the State of Virginia’s Concealed Handgun Permit. A Virginia CHP is valid in 26 states!
The Basic course runs around 8 hours usually with a morning classroom session, lunch break, and afternoon range portion.
Personal Protection in the Home
This course is more advanced than the Basic Firearms Courses and covers topics relevant to hardening your home against threats. Consisting of both classroom instruction and range exercises, this course is often taught over a few meeting dates that work for the trainee.
The Dark Arts
Situational Awareness/Threat Assessment
Starting off our offering of Dark Arts training, the SATA course sets the baseline for addressing real-world encounters and engages the issues behind the “shoot/no shoot” interrogative. Trainees will learn to navigate through levels of awareness and determine which actions are permitted at each level. This is coupled with a comprehensive survey of scenario-based threat assessment flashpoints.
Defensive Pistol
This course is designed specifically for the silent protector, the concealed carry citizen; but teachings may be applied to a broader reach of defensive needs. For those who have demonstrated proficiency with handgun safety, this course will bring the citizen up to speed with the culture of firearms carry, concealed or otherwise. Students will learn practical approaches to defensive shooting situations. They will learn about the big choice: shoot or don’t shoot, also known as the “shoot/no shoot” interrogative. Also included in the course are case studies on the use of lethal force showing how it’s been done right, and done wrong, along with a discussion on the do’s and dont’s of Open and Concealed Carry. Other topics include the technique of drawing your pistol from concealment, point shooting, and aftermath procedures. The complete course will take more than one classroom and range session.
Accelerated Pistol/Accelerated Rifle
Accelerated Pistol and Rifle courses are apex training offerings for civilians who wish to put all their tools to work in a potential defense situation. Trainees will study , aiming and shooting mechanics, moving into and out of different firing positions, exploitation of cover, improvised weapon handling and movement shooting. Because of the space and equipment required for this course, class availability may vary greatly. Add to the interest list below to stay up to date of offerings for this course.
